What is IELTS?
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP IELTS, and Cambridge University Press & Assessment. There are two versions of the IELTS exam: IELTS General Training and IELTS Academic. Both IELTS tests assess your English language skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking. If you are planning to migrate to Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the UK, the IELTS General test is the one for you. The main difference between the two versions is that the Writing and Reading sections of the two tests are different. The IELTS General Training test contains topics based on general interest and features everyday English language skills that you will need in social and workplace environments. The IELTS Listening and Speaking sections are the same, regardless which test you choose.
The IELTS General test takes a total of 2 hours and 45 minutes to complete, with Listening, Reading and Writing on the same day, and Speaking up to a week before or after. You can take the IELTS General test on paper in a test centre, or on a computer, either in a test centre or in the convenience of your own home.

What is PTE?
The full form of PTE Academic is the Pearson Test of English Academic. PTE Academic is owned by Pearson, the world’s leading learning company. It is accepted for migration, study and work around the world, including Canada’s Student Direct Stream (SDS) permit program. It is accepted by more than 3,000 universities, colleges, and professional bodies worldwide, and is approved for all UK, Australian, and New Zealand visa and immigration categories.
PTE Academic is a fast, two-hour test that measures your English Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing skills. The PTE test is taken via computer in a small, uncrowded test centre. There are over 350 test centres in 117 countries around the world, and you can book your PTE test easily online.
In the PTE scoring system, you receive an Overall Score between 10 and 90, as well as individual scores for each Communicative Skill – Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. The PTE score you need will depend on the country, workplace, college or university you are applying to.
