“British Council IELTS” refers to the IELTS English language proficiency test, which is delivered by official and trusted providers – British Council. The IELTS test helps newcomers to Canada for immigration, study and work purposes.
This depends on your pathway to permanent residency. If you are looking to study in Canada, you are more likely to need IELTS Academic. If you would like to move to Canada for work, you are more likely to take IELTS General Training. You can find out more about which IELTS exam to take here. If you are still unsure, we would always recommend checking with the organisation you would like to work or study with, to see which one they require.
Firstly, you need to book your IELTS exam. This can be done online, and you will be asked to choose a test centre near you. When doing this, you can also choose whether you would like to take your test on paper or on computer. Both are exactly the same test, and still taken within a local test centre. You will also be asked whether you would like to book IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training, so it’s worth knowing which you need to take before booking. Once your test is all booked, you simply show up to the test centre at the time and date of your exam, sit the test and await your results.
IELTS is really easy to apply for and can simply be booked online. There will be a test fee for you to pay when you make your booking, and you will need to be in Canada at the time of your test (so that you can take the exam at your local test centre).
